This is the most experienced level of Cal Ripken Baseball, recommended for 10-12-year-old players. Cal Ripken Baseball is played under the Official Baseball Rules, but implements some special rules as necessary for the development and welfare of this young age group. Under the Major Division, there are two formats, the Major/70 and Major/60 divisions. In both formats, games consist of six innings. To encourage the league to train more pitchers, there are rules that set the maximum number of innings a pitcher may pitch in a calendar week.
This division features a 46' pitching distance and 60' base paths. To keep games moving there is a 5 run per inning limit, no limit on stealing, and the infield fly and dropped third strike rules are in effect. There is a 10-run mercy rule. Our league participates in the Macintosh Baseball League, which will provide for post season playoff play. All players must attend our annual tryouts to ensure proper placement on a team.
The season starts at the end of April Vacation and ends by the third week of June. The kids will practice 1-2 times per week and will also have 1-2 games per week. Practice days, times and fields are at the coach’s discretion. Home games will be held at Craven Field in Townsend. Teams will play away games in Groton, Pepperell, Shirley, Ayer, Bolton, Harvard and Littleton.
